"Give the gift of water this holiday!"

Most people in the U.S. have never considered that the water coming out of the faucet may be unclean and they may get sick. Yet, this is the startling reality for people in the African nation of Mali, where most of the population does not have access to clean drinking water and must travel great distances to reach wells or streams, which are often contaminated. The scarcity of water contributes to the general lack of hygiene and the transmission of waterborne parasites and untimely death.

Meals for the Homeless

The Windy City Lions Club mobilized 200 meals for some of our fellow community members in need. More than 25 club members participated in some manner by donating money or food supplies, driving food and supplies, packing dinners and distributing meals. Two Lions from other local clubs also joined the effort. It definitely takes a lot of people and resources to pull off a project of this magnitude. The dinners included a deli sandwich, apple, granola bar and bag of chips. The Lions brought the meals to the Night Ministry and helped distribute on their mobile van.

The value of our contribution to these people's lives can best be summed up by the line around the block of adults and children waiting when the Night Ministries van pulled up to the distribution location in Uptown. As many live in nearby shelters, this was their only means for dinner.
